Dark Queen Gulriel Z'Viir of the Drow

During the dark night in the twisted palace the Drow Queen Borgir arose to an all too familiar sound of someone entering her chambers. She quickly attempted to raise her clerical powers, however she proved unsuccessful. She also sensed that something in the darkness of her chambers was indeed powerful. She arose from her purple draped bed to find a swordsman lunging in her direction; she managed to roll to the side and pull a spider dagger from her corset and slipped the it into the dark figure’s ribs. She then dropped into a defensive crouch and drew a wicked looking mace from the weapon rack that lay next to her bed.

Her keen senses allowed her to see a another dark figure wielding a crossbow materialize. She rolled to the left where the bolt nearly hit home. From there, she continued rolling forward when a blue blaze struck her from the side. Being a veteran of many wars, she had built up a resistance to arcane magic and brushed off the lightning blast as a minor wound. The strike took her off target slightly just enough to prevent her from making a direct hit to the crossbowman attempting to load another bolt. Compensating for her error she kicked the assassin’s feet from underneath him and with an overhead strike permanently removed the skull from its carcass.

Taking no time to allow the mage to land another strike, she side rolled, noticing another blue streak flowing by her face and giving off a heated sensation. She caught sight of the mage right before he returned to his cloaked state. Her judgment was well placed enough to attach an initiate Drow targeting magic upon the last visible spot the mage had been. The once cloaked form now became outlined in red and the arcane wielder began immediately to recite a spell to counter the queen’s. The queen wasting no time in this distraction and sprung forward, preparing a swing that came very close to the red figure’s head. However she found then that she was unable to follow through with her swing.

The sorcerer expected such a mindless open attack he had prepared a few minor physical barriers and began speaking in a magic. With a sudden unseen force the queen slammed into the nearest wall five meters away. Though it was a forceful blow, she was quickly able to wipe away the blood from her busted lip and then began advancing toward her opponent once more.
"Who is it that dare enter my quarters and attempt the queen’s life? Lloth shall be pleased to consume your soul after I drain the blood from your flesh", shouted the enraged queen.
"Lolth no longer favors you but me in your stead" boomed a strong female voice from somewhere in the dark.

"Sac-religion what proof do you have of this, you heretic" growled the ever alert queen whom was still scanning the room for the second cloaked figure.

The sadistic voice laughed and gloated "You have already seen the ever evident truth. Lolth did not come to your aid when you attempted your divine magic." Eager to end this, the spider queen began yet a third advance on the dark figure now preparing another spell. She then began another roll but was stopped short when a sharp pain pierced her in her lower torso. She felt the warm lifeblood flowing from her gut as a lightning blast surged through her chest, leaving an expressionless scowl on her dying form.

Seconds later a brigade sized guard force charged into the room, scimitars and crossbows drawn and all focused on the now visible mage. They immediately noticed the former head master of the Grand Drow Academy, Elgul Nazamroth. All of the Drow warriors were indeed stunned. None were daring enough to attempt combat with such a formidable enemy as the former head master. He managed to stun them even more when he dropped his staff and unsheathed his long sword, placing them both on the ground and admitting guilt. "You have caught me in the act. It is unfortunate, but it was necessary to remove such a wretch from the throne."

Staring in horror, they noticed the corpse of the dead queen with a large gapping hole in her chest. Her entrails were nearly nonexistent with smoke still rolling out from her inner chest cavity.
"Elgul, you know what this means don’t you?" asked one of his former students in a stern voice.

"Yes and I will go into the torture chamber without quarrel for I wish not to damage such fine Drow warriors as yourselves," stated the mighty mage with a firm voice.

The Drow brigade escorted him to the dark chambers where lay the most horrific of Drow torture devices. The guards left Elgul reluctantly to the pit master, where he would find the utmost pain ever experienced in any Drow life.

Outside of the palace walls in the capital city sewers, Gulriel X’virr was preparing an army to storm the palace. Along each side of her were her two lieutenants, both who held Lolth’s favor. "We have a kobold army in front over four hundred strong, and for the second wave roughly seventy arachnes", reported the lieutenant to the left of Gulriel.

"Everything is in position. Elgul has taken care of the queen, and with panic already spreading through the palace, they should be unorganized and unprepared."

"Make sure you slay every last one. We must completely eradicate house Borgir to take claim to the throne," ordered the young Drow priestess.

"Yes, your holiness we will begin the attack at once" responded the lieutenant to the left.

By the command of the soon to be Drow queen, kobold upon kobold followed by Drow warriors poured through the cellar door that had been discovered in the sewer by Drow scouts. Upon entering, they found surprised Drow in the mess hall the purple and green clad Drow of house X’virr slashed and hacked into the startled Drow that were sitting or drawing weapons. Drow jumped from table to table slashing throats, piercing guts, as well as lower torsos without a moment of hesitation. They then began their descents and ascents through the palace fighting and slaying anything in their path.

Gulriel, aware that Elgul lay in the upper layer, relayed through his last warp spell to the chambers of the former queen. Upon entering the blue mist and soaring through the planes she arrived in the queen’s lair. With haste she exited around the right wall into a dark corridor from where she continued forward until reaching a door with an iron bar lock. She lifted it and pulled the bar to the left allowing her access into the torture room. There lay four dead Drow guards and the pit lord all in red pools of blood. There in the window seat Elgul was perched, smirking at Gulriel with his blood stained long sword still dripping.

"You didn’t really think I would allow them to torture me so easily? I wouldn’t cover you that much. I suffered enough from my sisters whip in my early days to know I’ll never willingly allow such lashes to make contact with me again", exclaimed Elgul in a serious tone. "However it doesn’t matter now. Your troops should have cleaned out what I hadn’t destroyed silently up here." Returning with a smirk remarked Elgul. "Above all, my dark lady you now have a palace and a kingdom to run."

Gulriel returned the smile and added, "Normally it would be a crime to admit such acts. But you proved your loyalty to my cause, so Lolth shall reward you with your life".
